Living Clean in a Dirty World

Volume 43

October2020

Number 10

Beloved:

In the NT Letter to the Hebrews, one finds three Major WITHOUTS. The first is found in Hebrews 9:22 where, the text says: "WITHOUT shedding of Blood is no remission (forgiveness)." In the second WITHOUT in Hebrews 11:6, the text says: "But WITHOUT Faith it is impossible to please Him." We Baptists do a fairly good job in teaching our People the Truths of these first two WITHOUTS.

Baptists, however, have FAILED MISERABLY in instructing our people in the TRUTH of the Third WITHOUT, and it is, I believe, the MAIN CAUSE (reason) that God's People have such a difficult time in regards to LIVING CLEAN IN A DIRTY WORLD. In fact, it is ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE to LIVE CLEAN IN A DIRTY WORLD without the TRUTH of the Third WITHOUT.

"Well", you say, "and just what is the Third WITHOUT found in the Letter to the Hebrews?" We find it in Hebrews 12:14 where the text states: "and Holiness, WITHOUT which no man shall see the LORD:" Sad but so, the EMPHASIS on Holy Living is almost a thing of the past among BAPTISTS. And yet the lives of the holiest of men face a CONTINUAL WARFARE with the EVER PRESENT ENEMIES of the Church: the World, the Flesh, and the Devil.

Bishop J.C. Ryle in his book Holiness (which is a Christian Classic) states:

"Holiness is the habit of being of one mind with God, according as we find His mind described in Scripture. It is the Habit of agreeing in God's judgment, hating what He hates, loving what He loves and measuring everything in this world by the standard of His Word. He who most entirely agrees with God, he is the most holy man."

Without a doubt, SCRIPTURAL HOLINESS is the Answer to LIVING CLEAN IN A DIRTY WORLD. I leave You with this Thought: WOULD NOT IT BE WONDERFUL IF BAPTISTS FEARED WORLDLINESS AS MUCH AS WE SEEM TO FEAR HOLINESS?

Now a word from His Word: "But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy"--I Peter 1:15-16.
